Downtown Beat
This back-road bar occupies an old Austin stone house just south of downtown. PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, $2) is served in the can, with a frosty juice glass on the side. We quickly found the jukebox with an eclectic mix of ’70s hits by artists such as David Bowie and Elvis Costello. Retro beer ads decorate the joint. There are lots of dimly lighted nooks with booths.
For target practice, a Galaga video game provided plenty of spirited rivalry for only 25 cents a round. We figured this was a perfect ending to a laid-back Monday night.
